crestLambda Chi Alpha

Sigma Iota, Old Dominion

Lambda Chi Alpha was founded in 1909 by Warren A. Cole at Boston University where the first meeting was held on November 2nd. In 1928 Lambda Chi Alpha made an effort to ban hazing throughout all of its chapters and in all fraternity life. In 1939 Lambda Chi Alpha merged with Theta Kappa Nu and greatly increased the number of members of Lambda Chi Alpha by close to 7,000. This was the largest merge in fraternal history; also during 1939 Lambda Chi Alpha became incorporated becoming the steadfast business that it is today. In 1967 Lambda Chi Alpha reached a milestone by having its 100,000th initiate. At the time they were only the 5th fraternity to do so. In 1972 Lambda Chi Alpha took another step forward in the treatment of non-brothers by no longer calling perspective members pledges, instead they became known as Associate Members. As Associate Members they have the same rights as the brothers do including holding the right to vote in meetings on decisions and to hold an officer position within the fraternity. In 1991 they reached another milestone by having the 200,000th initiate; at the time only the third fraternity to do so.
